Dan Welter has been a committed Esperanza En Escalante board member since 2016 and has served as chairman since 2022. A native of Ohio, Dan earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Toledo. He spent his early career teaching science to middle and high school students, while also coaching and mentoring youth hockey teams. After relocating to Arizona in 2016, Dan became a licensed Realtor with Long Realty, emphasizing the importance of housing as a basic human need. Though not a veteran, Dan comes from a family with a solid military background, as his father, grandfather, and uncle all served their country. Married to his wife Whitney for 33 years, they have three children. Through his role at Esperanza En Escalante, Dan is passionate about advocating for housing solutions and providing vital support to veterans and their families facing homelessness. |
Whitney WelterVice President
Whitney Welter serves as Vice Chairman of the Esperanza En Escalante Board. Since joining the board in 2021, Whitney has leveraged her extensive financial and leadership expertise in social services to assist and encourage Esperanza in setting and reaching new and aspirational objectives. Originally from the Midwest, Whitney earned a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Leadership from the University of Toledo; she maintains an active Certified Public Accountant license in Ohio. After founding and leading a boutique financial software consulting firm with clients nationwide, Whitney shifted her focus to healthcare finance. Working exclusively with physician groups, Whitney developed a passion for healthcare access and quality issues, specifically concerning social determinants of health and their effect on underserved populations. In 2020, she joined the Easterseals Blake Foundation, aligning her career more directly with the social services she is passionate about. Outside of her professional life, Whitney is a licensed realtor and enjoys gardening, reading, and supporting her husband in his real estate business. |
Charles VaughanTreasurer
Charles F. Vaughan is a retired Navy Captain, having served 37 years in the Navy, rising from seaman to captain. He is currently the president of the Catalina Mountains Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and vice-president of the Arizona Council of Chapters of MOAA. He is the treasurer of the New Mexico Council of the Navy League of the U.S., having previously served two terms as president of that council. He volunteers at his church with the production team and the Snack Pack ministry and is on the leadership team of the Feed My Starving Children ministry |

Jessica’s expertise in developing tools, resources, and training programs, coupled with her strong collaboration with senior leadership and external partners, ensures alignment with global DIB strategies. Her proven track record in creating inclusive environments, mentoring teams, and data-driven decision-making positions her as a valuable addition to any board, poised to drive impactful and sustainable change. |
Nathania ChaneyNathania Chaney, a Tucson resident born on Mather Air Force Base, integrates her 14-year finance career with her passion for culinary arts and community engagement. Beyond her professional endeavors, she dedicates herself to fostering connections through food, whether through teaching cooking classes, operating her small meal-prep business, or sharing meals with loved ones. A University of Arizona Psychology graduate, she finds solace and fulfillment in gardening, a passion she enthusiastically pursues whenever possible. As the newly appointed Communications Manager of her Neighborhood Association, Nathania spearheads initiatives like the Community Garden, synergizing her diverse interests into impactful community projects.

The Honorable Victoria SteeleVictoria Steele, Justice of the Peace, was a State Senator, therapist and educator. She has served as an Arizona State Senator for most of the last decade creating laws. Prior to serving in the Legislature, she was a licensed substance misuse counselor, a domestic violence therapist, and teacher of college graduate-level counseling students.

Hector has been living independently for many years and has been a steadfast volunteer for the Veterans served by Esperanza.
